Peyton Place is a novel created in 1956 by Grace Metalious. It became the number one selling book in 1956. It was also one of the most controversial of that time. It sold 600,000 copies within the first ten days. It also remained in the New York times best seller's list for 59 weeks. It was the first sexually driven soap opera that came. The book was set in the 1930's and 40's. The main character was Allison MacKenzie , a teenager. Her mother, Constance, is a shop owner who claims that she is a widow. Other major characters are Betty Anderson, Rodney Harrington, Selena Cross, and the principal Micheal Rossi.
