Hula Hoops

No one can claim they invented the first hula hoop because it is an ancient invention.

  • Around 1300, hooping came to Great Britain and homemade versions of the toy became very popular. In the early 1800s, British sailors first witnessed hula dancing in the Hawaiian Islands. Hula dancing and hooping look somewhat similar and the name "hula hoop" came together.
  • Hoop dancing is a form of storytelling for Native American Indians dating back to the 1400s.
  • Hula hoops was introduced and became popular in America in the late 1950s. The fad died away but it is becoming popular again. It is a good way to exercise for your waist and hips.
Hula Hoopping is also popular on the Wii fitness game. It is virtual way of hula hooping without the actual hoop around you but the same excerise applies.
